Anne – if you’re new to the platform and want more views, best to try to publish through some of the established literary publications on the Medium that accept short stories. Some are harder to get into initially, but they will provide the opportunity for more eyes on your work. Check out P.S. I Love You, Lit Up, The Junction, Literally Literary, The Creative Cafe, Written Tales, The Weekly Knob for starters – read the stuff they publish and see if your work is a fit, than check their submission guidelines and send them a pitch! I write and publish poetry and short fiction on Medium, and am listed as a writer with many of these publications – just not writing enough of late to keep up with them all!

Oh, and to answer your first question – although “factual” stuff seems to be more widely promoted on Medium, well written fiction also has a reasonable size audience – you just need to know where to find them, and checking out the publications I’ve mentioned (and more) is a good start! Also – search out “fiction” and “short story” tags to discover the work published in these areas; engage with other people’s work that you like (highlights, claps and comments) – and they may come back and check out your own. You may even make new friends here!
