As a civil servant and a lawyer, all I really want to do now is come back to my childhood/teenage dream of being a writer. Although they are relatively well-paid day jobs, they are unlikely to replace your desire to write – notwithstanding that most of my work as a lawyer right now does involve reading, interpreting and writing. I’ve discovered that at heart, I’m a storyteller, and it’s been leaking through in my many years in the law. That’s probably why my preference is for fiction and poetry, outside of the day job.
