I get it. I mainly write poetry on this platform, and I was just thinking over the last few days that the way I worry a poem into being is not dissimilar to the solving of complex maths problems. Incidentally, way back in my senior high school days, studying advanced mathematics along with advanced English, I would occasionally write poetry about my frustration with maths — and one such poem, submitted by my maths teacher, ended up being published in the Journal of the Mathematics Association of NSW (first student poem, they said! not unsurprisingly…).

In a surprising twist of fate, my current day job involves writing costs advices in criminal legal matters — so it seems I can’t escape those pesky numbers…
