Interestingly, all the Australian contestants to date have either Asian or Aboriginal/Indigenous roots (sometimes, in Jessica Mauboy’s case, both!) – Guy Sebastian, Dami Im, Isaiah Firebrand, and now Jessica Mauboy! Not necessarily how everyone may think of Australia overseas – or even some of our politicians here, who go on about our Anglo-Celtic roots (forgetting who was here first!) – but perfectly appropriate, I think, considering all our First Nation people, and that we are positioned in the middle of the Pacific Islands and Asia. And a wonderful showcase for our multicultural talent!
