Jenny, I feel this. Despite the opinion of some of our fellow writers (why the hate on haiku?), poetry was never the easy way out. I know I’ve spent hours — even a few days — perfecting a short poem, and more like weeks/months for the longer ones. Length has nothing to do with impact or quality. As it is, I’m not sure what I’m going to do. I went from earning around $10 — $40+ for a single poem last year, to making between $3 — $10 over the last few months, and in the last few days it’s been more like $0.30. I’m yet to crack $2 for a single poem — and I’m talking about the good ones; the ones on which I’ve had brilliant comments and response rate. So. Last year I paid for a year’s membership upfront, and Apple tells me it’s due to auto-renew around 1 December. But I’m wondering whether to cancel it, and move on… I probably won’t, because I still love the creative community here — but I may change it to month by month and see how things pan out into early next year. But I’m wondering if this is another kick up the backside to start a serious assault on the wider literary world — enough time for play; time to get serious — and either crash and burn, or else dissolve in a whimper. And yeah, the thought of it is exhausting. And I know for you, and others like you, who came to rely on the pay here (and worked hard for it!) — it’s a harder choice. So hugs. And yes, we need to support each other — but why, why can’t the platform give us a tiny break? ❤️❤️❤️
