Most of mine start as a few lines in the Notes app on my phone – and often that’s where they are finalised, before being transferred to Medium, or other places.
I agree with your comments about not seeking validation from publication in literary magazines. Of course, that can be a nice thing, but I’m sure many people have been crushed by the dismissive stance of a random literary editor. Studying Honours in English literature at uni years ago stopped me from writing poetry for many years (and I wrote my first poem at seven or eight!) – because I didn’t think I could compete. But I’m glad I found my way back again – first through music, and songwriting – which helped me re-find my voice, in many ways.
